Blessed with an amazing climate and truly gorgeous landscapes, Provence shows off with to-the-horizon fields of lavender, ancient ruins, charming medieval villages and a glorious regional cuisine. Sheltered by medieval walls, Avignon's maze of narrow streets is filled with churches, museums and palaces—chief among them the 14th-century papal palace (Palais des Papes). We'll visit elegant Aix-en-Provence and sample the wines of the Rhone Valley. On the French Riviera, we'll spend three nights in Nice—“Grand Old Dame of the Côte d'Azur”—and enjoy excursions to glamorous Cannes, the Exotic Garden of Eze (located on the site of a medieval fortress) and jet-setting Monaco.
